Good
The Best of Me is a romantic drama...with a very sad ending. Amanda and Dawson were lovers as teenagers in high school, but a series of unfortunate events tore them apart, and forced them to live separate lives. After 20 years of not being in touch, a mutual friend of theirs died, and they got to see again. And as you would guess, the love is still there, and they start to wish they had never gone apart.
Dawson (James Marsden) is still single, but Amanda (played by Michelle Monaghan) has been married for 18 years and has a teenage kid of her own. Amanda is not happy in her marriage, and would just love to start a new life with Dawson. But she is scared of giving him her heart again and having him desert her. Then another tragedy happens.
Through out the movie, they go between flashbacks from the past and the present day. And it is a great concept. Well, except from the fact that they didn't get people that played the older characters that actually looked like them from their younger years. Okay, the male character is still forgivable, but getting Michelle Monaghan to play an older Liana Liberato just didn't work for me. They might have the same physique, but not the same mannerism or personality. I think the movie director/producers would have gone with Scarlett Johansson or Jessica Alba...or maybe even Renee Zellweger.
Also, the end is kind of annoying and unbelievable; what father would deliberately do that to his own son? You can do a lot of stuff in a fit of rage that you regret later, but for you to plan something like that is just unreal. The scenes from the younger lovers is acted out better and more interesting than the ones from the grown up lovers, which was boring and had less 'magic.' I'd give this movie a 6/10 rating.
